Homemade Blue Majik Cashew Mylk (vegan)

Say hello to this super simple & delicious Homemade Cashew Mylk, with a little pop of color from E3 Live Blue Majik!

Cashews are packed with healthy unsaturated fats, and this is a simple way to make a delicious non-dairy milk at home (although please remember there is nothing wrong with regular milk – it’s full of protein, calcium and Vitamin D!). My body personally tends to feel best with non-dairy milks more regularly, so I tend to alternate between almond milk and cashew milk more regularly, and whole milk for fun recipes or as a great coffee creamer. Listen to your body – it may be fueled best with protein-packed Cow’s milk, or it may be asking for some cashew or almond milk! Everyone is different – work with a Dietitian if you’re confused what works best for you.

So, what the heck is Blue Majik? You may have heard of spirulina before, a blue green algae known for its antioxidant properties, as well as being (surprisingly) full of plant-based protein and Vitamin B12! It also contains other vitamins, essential fatty acids, minerals, and essential amino acids.

The active ingredient found in Spirulina responsible for its anti-inflammatory activities is C-phycocyanin, a pigment commonly found in blue-green algae. Therefore E3 Blue Majik is the only company that you can buy this powerful ingredient, extracted from spirulina. A powerful algae, in which “the antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory activities of these may play an important role in human health.”

They give you a great low-down about Blue Majik here.

From one research article, it states that “C-phycocyanin can selectively inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase-2, a critical enzyme in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. Because of its chemical structure, C-phycocyanin also displays antioxidative and free radical scavenging properties, which may contribute, at least in part, to its anti-inflammatory activities.”

People have been using spirulina in their diet for multiple centuries, dating back to the 16th century. Want to read more nerdy research on the benefits? Check out this research article here. Not to mention, the blue color adds a pop of brightness to food, smoothies, and other yummies that’s hard not to love!
