Often times, people get afraid of snacking, thinking it will lead to overeating and excess calories. But, as a Dietitian I promote snacking! It’s a great way to stay energized, keep your blood sugar stable (important for mood control and staying energized throughout the day), prevent you from overeating later on, and keeps your metabolism fueling.
Have you ever missed a meal and felt totally HANGRY later on, only to feel out of control around dinner time and end up overeating? Yup. Snacking is helpful to get fuel between meals and keep your blood sugar steady so you can have the fuel to go about your day. We know by how the body works that we should be fueling every 3-4 hours or so to maintain steady blood levels, so if you know you are going to not have a meal for 4+ hours, plan to have a snack!
